PSA: Telephone Scams

The Litchfield Police Department has recently seen an increase in the report of Telephone Scams. There are currently two (2) scams being reported to the department:

  1. Thieves are “Spoofing” (using a computer to mimic phone numbers on Caller ID) the Litchfield Police Department phone number. The caller/thief tells the home owners they are under federal investigation and will be arrested if they don’t pay a fine.
  2. Thieves are “Spoofing” Eversource’s phone number. The caller/thief demands payments or they will immediately cut the power to the home owner’s residence.

Thieves can “Spoof” any number from any business.  PLEASE DO NOT SEND MONEY VIA PREPAID CREDIT CARDS/PAYPAL/WESTERN UNION OR GIVE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION OVER THE TELEPHONE.
